Briefing and Training Session of FinTech Social Hackathon

Laboratory for AI-Powered Financial Technologies organized FinTech Social Hackathon Competition with the theme “Enhancing Hong Kong Citizens’ Understanding of MPF Investment for Better Retirement Planning.” The briefing session took place on 15 Nov 2024 at HK Tech 300, featuring an introductory session and Design Thinking training for university students to delve into design thinking methodologies to conduct market research on Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF), interview Hong Kong citizens, and collect and analyse data. Participants will utilize design thinking method to create app solutions and submit proposals. A judging panel will select the best team.

The event commenced with a welcome speech by Professor Alice Law, Adjunct Professor from the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law, who provided insights into the current state of MPF in Hong Kong. Professor Law, former Chief Executive of Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, has extensive experience in formulating public policy and in financial regulation, as well as in implementing reform measures to enhance the MPF System. Subsequently, Ben Wong, Project Coordinator of AIFT, guided participants on applying design thinking methodologies in the hackathon. Ray Yu, AIFT Engineer, demonstrated how an AI chatbot trained on Hong Kong MPF data could be used to extract valuable insights for research design. Participants actively engaged in discussions and interacted with speakers.
