The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize (STIP), established by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation (HKATI) and sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, is a non-governmental merit-based award. The STIP aims at rewarding scientists and research teams in Hong Kong or research-related institutions set up by Hong Kong higher education institutions and located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, for their significant achievements in scientific and technological innovation and transformation. The prize acknowledges the outstanding achievements of scientists, technologists, and research teams in five major areas: artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health, new materials and new energy, advanced manufacturing, and FinTech.
The laureates of STIP2024 in FinTech has been bestowed upon Professor Cong Wang, a Senior Researcher at Laboratory for AI-Powered Financial Technologies. His research work spans across data security, AI systems, blockchain and decentralized applications. He has made prolific contributions to these fields.
He is focused on enhancing data security measures in the ever-expanding realm of AI-powered finance. Prof. Wang has significantly advanced this field by developing innovative algorithms and systems for protecting data in use, including new designs for encrypted databases, privacy-preserving data analytics platforms, and encrypted deep packet inspection systems, all underpinned by solid theoretical frameworks and practical performance metrics. As artificial intelligence reshapes the landscape of financial technology, Prof. Wang has broadened his research to AI security. His work systematically identifies and mitigates potential model hijacking vulnerabilities across the AI lifecycle, from data preprocessing to model deployment, covering both digital realms and physical contexts. His innovative designs have significantly enhanced the integrity and robustness of AI operations in FinTech, which is crucial for the sector’s operational continuity. These innovations collectively pave the way for a future where data ownership and security are integral to system design, offering a robust foundation for the next generation of smart FinTech applications.
The STIP acknowledges his outstanding contributions in developing innovative data and AI security technologies that safeguard private data in use while unlocking the vast potential of data value in FinTech ecosystems.
